Five-Year Rule
A graduate student is expected to complete all master's degree requirements within five years of admission as a UIUC graduate degree student. Extension of the period requires a petition be approved by the department and the Graduate College. The student should indicate off-campus status on the petition form, and should state how many additional semesters will be required to complete the degree. Repeated petitions of this kind are likely to be denied.
