Course Description:
This course is designed to cover the basic legal issues that may be confronted by a technology entrepreneur in the business life cycle of a start-up. The specific topics that will be discussed include: intellectual property protection, licensing, and enforcement; corporate governance and choice of business entity; public and private financing through private placement; employment and personnel issues; and exit strategies such as initial public offering, buyout, and bankruptcy.

Course Objectives: To provide a thorough exposure to the legal issues with which a technology entrepreneur may have to contend.
Prerequisite(s): Undergraduate degree.
Required Textbook: Required supplemental readings will be available from the Office of Continuing Engineering Education for a fee of $35 (includes shipping and handling).
Credit: 3 hours. Counts toward the certificate in Strategic Technology Management.
